Meghalaya to settle long-pending border dispute between neighbouring State

- Meghalaya cabinet has approved the recommendations of three regional committees, namely West Khasi Hills, Ri-Bhoi, East and West Jaintia Hills along with the recommendation of the Assam Government which will be submitted to the Union Home Minister on 20th January with regard to the long-pending border dispute between the neighbouring States.
- The regional committees have been formed to examine the present status of the six areas of differences Tarabari, Gizang and Hahim in West Khasi Hills district, Boklapara and Khanapara-Pilingkata in Ri Bhoi district, and Ratacherra in East Jaintia Hills district.
- Following a cabinet meeting at Shillong this afternoon, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said, the Government felt strongly that apart from historical facts, it is important to keep the sentiments of the people in mind.
- He added, the regional committees had meticulously gone and visited 36 villages in six areas where the dispute is about 36.79 sq km.
- Both the Chief Minister of Assam and Meghalaya will meet the Union Home Minister and submit a common report as both the States have agreed 100 per cent to the recommendations of the regional committees.
