- As per the preliminary figures of the last census released by the bureau of statistics Nepal’s population has registered a 0.93 per cent growth that is lowest in past eight decades.
- In the last census, in 2011, the average population growth rate was 1.35 percent.
- Nepal’s total population stood at 29,192,480 against 26,494,504 during the 2011 census.
- The population of women numbered 14,901,169 while that of males was 14,291,311
- Nepal has been conducting the national census since 1911 every 10 years
- The reason for the low population growth could be the low birth-rate and out migration
- Interestingly, the government of Nepal has also added 750 people from the disputed Kalapani, Lipulek and Limpiadhura to the list. The decision to include the figure this time — first time in sixty years— comes after the government decided to include those areas in its official map.
- The latest trend indicates that the Tarai area comprising 22 districts along the border with India has registered a significant internal migration, around 53.6 per cent, followed by 40.2 per cent in the hills and only 6.09 per cent in the mountain region.
